In a day and age where options seem to be limitless, our wide range of laminate, carpet, and hardwood (plus so much more!) options at Brothers Flooring are no different. It can seem daunting to pick when faced with a new flooring project, but our team are experts in the field and can help narrow down your choices to the best possible fit for your space. We bring that expertise now to the blog, and have been highlighting different flooring choices for our customers in an easy to reach space. The flooring we will highlight on the blog today has evolved a lot over the years and is a great option for almost any space: Laminate!
What is Laminate?
Laminate is an incredibly versatile flooring option. It can look like hardwood, tile, or even marble and other stone. It is durable, even more so than hardwood, although cannot be refinished like real wood. Laminate flooring is made of fiberboard (composite wood compressed together at very high temperatures) of a high density at it’s core. The pattern and look of laminate comes from the fiberboard being covered with patterned or decorative sheeting. Lastly, the laminate is covered with a hard transparent layer that seals and protects it. It comes in a variety of different sizes depending on the aesthetic.
Where Can Laminate be Used?
Anywhere! Laminate is so durable and universally appealing it can go in most any space. It is great for high traffic areas, homes or rooms with pets, and anywhere else durability and scratch resistance is a priority without sacrificing visual appeal. Some laminate is waterproof, and some is only water resistant so the type of room (i.e. laundry versus living room) would be a factor in choosing what type of laminate would be best for your space. Our associates in our stores, now in Spokane and Post Falls, can help narrow down the best option for the amount of moisture in the room being floored.
What are the Benefits of Laminate?
The most superficial and easy to identify benefit of laminate is the aesthetic. The look of real hardwood, tile, and stone is achievable with laminate without the factors that make people hesitant to use those raw materials. Laminate flooring is also easier to install and comes at a fraction of the price.
Another advantage of laminate is the health benefits it brings to any space. It is easier to clean than other options. A daily sweep is all it takes to keep laminate looking fresh! Unlike carpet, laminate doesn’t trap dust or germs so it is hypoallergenic as well.
Laminate is also an appeal for a lot of homes and businesses because the hard resin protective coating resists scratches and wear really well. Pets and high traffic are not a problem with laminate flooring! Another desirable quality for using laminate in home projects is the fact that it can be installed over almost anything (concrete, plywood, existing flooring) without expanding and contracting like hardwood. Laminate is also easy to install for all you DIY-ers out there.
